These pretty little porcelain plates feature various floral designs with purple violets. Violets are one of my favorite motifs of antique and porcelain patterns. Not as common as roses/dogwood roses, but many makers created a unique interpretation of this flower. Here we have luscious painterly patterns from Japan and France as well as more measured decorating from Bavaria and (I would guess) Japan as well for the squared plate (the backstamp is too faded to read).
CHOOSE FROM:
1. Haviland France Violets and Foliage bread or side plate with thick gold trim, scalloped rim edge, and a garland around entire rim. Backstamped and numbered underneath. Plate is signed "H. Fox" 6 inches diameter
2. Noritake Japan Violets clustered on one side tapering off around the round rim like a watercolor painting on a plate, faintly gilt rim edge, backstamp with Noritake logo. 6.25 inches diameter
3. Thomas Bavaria, Germany with Violets in a pair on one end, single on the opposite end, and small buds along two sides, gold trim with varying thickness of gilding, signed "G.B." Backstamped and numbered (30) - measures 5.75 inches diameter
4. Backstamp is undecipherable (too blurry to make out) - Squared plate with rounded corners. A very find porcelain with a handmade feel. Suspect it to be made in Japan as the quality reminds me of other items I have. Pattern of violets is a clutch of about five violets at each of four corners plus center. Hand-picked looking with foliage. measures about 6 inches wide and deep (6" square)
5. Starorolský Porcelán Moritz Zdekauer (Backstamp "MZ Altrohlau CMR czechoslavikia") Fingerloop Plate with a cluster of blue and purple violets at the center, Heavy band of gold paint on trim and handle. Small, 5 inch plate with loop handle, Signed by artist on underside
